The North America Nebula (NGC 7000) is a large emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus, named for its resemblance to the North American continent. It is about 1,600 light-years away and is energized by young, hot stars, causing its hydrogen gas to glow. The nebula is visible to the naked eye under dark skies and can be seen with binoculars or telescopes, often appearing as a diffuse glow.
