This is NGC 6960, also known as the Western Veil Nebula, a spectacular part of the Cygnus Lace.
It is an emission nebula, a supernova remnant in the Cygnus constellation resulting from the supernova explosion of a star about 20 times the mass of the Sun, which occurred between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago.
The shock wave projects filaments of heated gas into the surrounding space, forming an extended ring visible from Earth
Estimated distance: approximately 2,400 light-years
Angular size: covers approximately 3° in diameter in the sky (~6 times the diameter of the full Moon)
Actual size: the entire complex measures up to 110 light-years in diameter. NGC 6960 alone extends over approximately 35 light-years
